2007 ASA Pro/Am Gainesville , FL Feb 2-4

The weekend at Florida to kick off the 2007 Pro/Am Tour was typical for the season opener and Goldtip shooters did exceptional. The new 14 ring format was extremely exciting and while everyone was kind of waiting around to see how it would affect the shooters, Gold Tip Staff manager Tim Gillingham was ready with a gameplan to win and hopefully get a big lead on “Shooter of the Year”. “ I knew I would catch everyone waiting to see if anyone would be shooting at the 14’s. Since Florida is typically a tournament where the yardages were a little shorter than average, I decided to shoot at every 14 under 35 yards and got off to a resounding start. I was 40 up on target 17 and ended up with a 5 and a 8 on the last three targets to finish with a ten point lead going into Sunday. The sneak attack was over and now everyone knew the 14 was in play.” It all ended on Sunday with one of the more dramatic shootoffs in ASA history where Gillingham had to hit a 14 on the final arrow for the win. 5 guys went into the final arrow shootoff. The two that hit 14’s finished 1st and 2nd. It’s definitely a new game!

With the new scoring and the amateurs shooting marked distance on Sunday, no one could take anything for granted and course management became a big part of the game. Below are the top three finishers shooting Goldtip arrows.
