Montana Elk Hunt - By Scott Haugen December 1, 2010
The highlight of our elk season was calling in this Montana bull, one of 18 called in on the hunt.  We spotted him at first light, made a lengthy stalk to get into calling position, and everything worked out perfectly.  A half-dozen cow calls (no bugles), got the bull’s interest, and he traveled over 500 yards, right into my lap.  The 40 yard shot was easy, though my pulse was racing.

As always, my Gold Tip arrow flew true.  What’s impressive is the fact the arrow passed dead-center through a rib upon entry, then passed through both lungs and the heart before burying into the offside leg of the bull, where the broadhead stayed.  The bull went less than 100 yards and piled-up.

Talk about impressive arrow performance!  This was the first bull I’d taken with the new Velocity arrow topped with VaneTec vanes, and it won’t be my last!  You’ll be able to see this exciting hunt unfold in 2011, on our Trijicon Game Chasers show, on the Outdoor Channel.
